Registered Product Owner Credential

We are breaking down silos, opening up and strengthening communication, and empowering teams to help your nonprofit create twice the impact in half the time

Scrum is founded on empiricism and lean thinking. Empiricism asserts that knowledge comes from experience and making decisions based on what is observed. Lean thinking reduces waste and focuses on the essentials.

The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Scrum Team. How this is done may vary widely across organizations, Scrum Teams, and individuals.

Who should attend:

  • Any nonprofit professional that is providing the vision to their team or to the team(s) they work with.
  • Any nonprofit professional that wants to lead by serving their team, even if they are a nonprofit professional that looks like a “team of one” on the organizational chart.

This could mean everyone from a Board Chair to CEO to a Director of a department.

“excellent “translation” of scrum framework and roles to nonprofit world, “

The Product Owner is also accountable for effective Product Backlog management, which includes:

  • Developing and explicitly communicating the Product Vision and Product Goal;
  • Creating and clearly communicating Product Backlog items;
  • Ordering Product Backlog items; and,
  • Ensuring that the Product Backlog is transparent, visible and understood.

The Product Owner may do the work or may delegate the responsibility to others. Regardless, the Product Owner remains accountable to the organization’s leadership for delivering value for the community and stakeholders. For Product Owners to succeed, the entire organization must respect their decisions. These decisions are visible in the content and ordering of the Product Backlog, and through the inspectable Increment at the Sprint Review. The Product Owner is one person, not a committee. The Product Owner may represent the needs of many stakeholders in the Product Backlog.

Not once, in eight days, did I even come close to nodding off. That doesn't happen often... The course moved quickly - and I'm an old fashioned note taker - so I truly appreciate access to the slides and other resource material. Don't know if there's an improvement in there, as there's a lot of material to cover. Maybe add a day - or two 😉

It was really helpful to hear about the experiences of my classmates as we all represented nonprofits of different sizes and missions. I liked using MURAL for our various exercises and appreciated that Diane injected practicing Scrum in many aspects of the training, from calculating our class velocity to performing a retrospective.

The targeted resources and curriculum really set the stage for a successful adoption of Scrum. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of support materials provided and nonprofit case studies.
