Registered Product Owner Credential

We are breaking down silos, opening up and strengthening communication, and empowering teams to help your nonprofit create twice the impact in half the time at a sustainable pace.

Scrum is founded on empiricism and lean thinking. Empiricism asserts that knowledge comes from experience and making decisions based on what is observed. Lean thinking reduces waste and focuses on the essentials.

The Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value of the product resulting from the work of the Scrum Team. How this is done may vary widely across organizations.

Who should attend:

  • Any nonprofit professional, regardless of title, who is providing the vision to their team or to the team(s) they work with; or
  • Any nonprofit professional, regardless of title, who wants to lead by serving their team, even if they are a nonprofit professional that looks like a “team of one” on the organizational chart.

About the Registered Product Owner by Scrum Inc. Exam & Credential

Students who complete at least 14 hours of Registered Product Owner training are eligible to take the Registered Product Owner exam. Students who pass the exam will earn their Registered Product Owner credential.

The Registered Product Owner credential formally recognizes your knowledge of lean principles, Product Owner techniques, patterns of high-performing teams, and how the Product Owner role scales in an organization.

The Registered Product Owner credential is the only Product Owner credential endorsed by Jeff Sutherland, co-creator of Scrum and inventor of Scrum@Scale. The Registered Product Owner credential will help you stand out to employers, stakeholders, and peers.

In the Registered Product Owner course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Deliver higher quality products and services faster, while cutting cost and improving employee happiness and job satisfaction;
  • Assess business value;
  • Consistently deliver a successful product to the marketplace;
  • Use techniques and metrics to prioritize features, projects, and portfolios; and
  • Interpret patterns and practices of high-performing Scrum teams.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Name the key attributes of a good Product Owner;
  • Utilize techniques for creating a vision statement that is compelling enough to be broadly shared, yet concise and easily remembered;
  • Describe why the Product Owner should spend half of their time with customers and stakeholders and the other half of their time with the team;
  • Explain that the Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value of the work done by the team;
  • Explain the benefits of using customer personas; and
  • Recognize that the Product Owner has the final say on the ordering of the Product Backlog.

Not once, in eight days, did I even come close to nodding off. That doesn't happen often... The course moved quickly - and I'm an old fashioned note taker - so I truly appreciate access to the slides and other resource material. Don't know if there's an improvement in there, as there's a lot of material to cover. Maybe add a day - or two 😉

It was really helpful to hear about the experiences of my classmates as we all represented nonprofits of different sizes and missions. I liked using MURAL for our various exercises and appreciated that Diane injected practicing Scrum in many aspects of the training, from calculating our class velocity to performing a retrospective.

The targeted resources and curriculum really set the stage for a successful adoption of Scrum. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of support materials provided and nonprofit case studies.
